  1. SCRAMBLE FROM PRAGUE

  3. Careful study of the combat performance
  4. characteristics of the Me 262 jet 
  5. revealed that it was most vulnerable 
  6. during take-off and landing.  The Eighth 
  7. Air Force subsequently developed the 
  8. tactic of sending fighters ahead of the 
  9. bomber stream to catch the jets taking 
  10. off from likely airfields.  This policy 
  11. paid off on April 19, 1945, when Lt. Col. 
  12. Jack Hayes led a part of the 357th FG
  13. toward Prague airfield.  Using the sun 
  14. to his advantage, Hayes began circling
  15. to the south.  Soon, numerous pairs of 
  16. Me 262s took off and the Mustangs, using 
  17. their altitude advantage, dove on the 
  18. unsuspecting jets.  The P-51s shot down 
  19. four and damaged three of the jets 
  20. before they used their superior speed to 
  21. pull away.

  25. You and three other Me 262s are on the
  26. runway at Prague airfield.  Get airborne 
  27. as quickly as possible to avoid the 
  28. strafing fire of the American P-51s 
  29. diving on your field.  Once in the air, 
  30. try to gain sufficient speed and altitude 
  31. to engage the Americans.  There are two 
  32. FW 190s flying top cover for your 
  33. airfield.
